Quests are an fundamental part of World of Warcraft. It must be said that these do not let you feel bored at any time during the game, but after sometime, they are a nuisance in WoW. The first time you run through them they are all new and shiny. Then the next time you do them you may try different alternatives, but after that it starts to become more about efficiency.
After some time quests are all about completing it in the most competent way, and there are two ways one can do this. The 1st happens to be the commonest, which according to a few, is one of the methods where you succeed by trial and error. This is where you stumble into a pursuit, say something along the lines of "I remember this one, I think I need to go over there…", and stumble all over the thing in roughly the same way you did previously. The biggest problem of this aimless method is that you are most confused and befuddled.
The 2nd route is the competent one: It involves entering your moves, polishing the campaign each time until when you start a pursuit you follow it from A to B to C to completion. I personally learnt about this strategy while I played a now-defunct game called Pools of Radiance and this applies to any game, which has any replay worth. In case you feel that you would follow the same route while returning, make notes on the path. In case you feel that you would take up this expedition once again, make notes of the essential points and take a different route just to add variety. You are most welcome to try out assorted options but if you forget to note down your activities, the prospects are that next time around, you would be moving about like a headless chicken.
How much of that would you note down? Let us take travel down memory lane and re-visit Pools of Radiance, which taught me my first lessons. I first brought my champions from the walls of Phlan and journeyed up the river to reach a lake. I remember that there was a large pyramid in the heart of the lake exuding volumes of contaminants into the clean river and my champions had to probe. In brief, the pyramid held one of the most annoying labyrinths I have ever experienced. Not only was it twisty and impossible to see any landmarks, but it also had teleporters which arbitrarily jumped you all over the area. I finally decided to note down all my activities on paper, but not before expending an enormous amount of time uselessly tying to control my situation in the labyrinth. As incredible as it may sound, the next time I tried to play the game with a new group I finished it in ten minutes flat.
So Map, record, elaborate and while it may sound a little dull to begin with, when you carry it to it's natural end and you've leveled four times faster than everyone else, the dullness doesn't smart so much.
